Character
introduced:
Ralph:
Round character and protagonist. Twelve-year-old.
He has fair hair
and is very tall and thin. The leader of the group of
boys. He is the conscious
boy and knows what to do and how to do(light the fire as a rescue
signal).
Jack:
Dynamic character and
antagonist.
One of the older
boys stranded on the island. The
leader of the hunters.
Tall, thin and bony, red hair and always wear a black cap. His face
is ugly. He has good leadership skills but he takes the wrong
turning, uses bad means to get what he wants.
Piggy:
Ralph's supporter. Short and very fat. A clever and intellectual boy,
know how to do, but without leadership skills.
Simon:Flat
character. He is a skinny, shy and sensitive boy with straight,
coarse black hair.
Point of view:The narrator speaks in the third person, It means the narrator is omniscient .I think author wants us to know and understand the characters' s psychological changes better. And author uses the third people, the narrator focus on the protagonist Ralph, to strengthen reader's thoughts that Ralph is justice and Jack is evil.
Setting:Time: World War2. Place:On a deserted island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Author
sets the place on a deserted island, it means the boys without the
adults and any help, they have to help themselves to survival by
themselves. And they are the children, have not changed by the
society yet,so they can express completely the justice and evil are
from the humans inside and the natural of the human. This novel also
reflects World War2, the cruel of the war and the people change to
savage and loss their mind.
Notable
about the writer's style:Golding
uses a relatively straightforward writing style in Lord of the
Flies. Lord of Flies
is allegorical, It
means the
characters and objects in the novel are infused with symbolic
significance that conveys the novel’s central themes and ideas.
Statement
of themes:
In
the first quarter of this book, the novel describes the cruel
environment and the boys eager to be rescued. The invisible feud and
the different minds between Ralph and Jack.
