Character sketches

Simon
Simon is a skinny, vivid little boy, with a glance coming up from under a hut of straight hair that hung down, black and coarse. Simon stands on an entirely different place from all the other boys. He is the first to realize the monster on the island is not a real, physical beast but rather a savagery that lurks within each human being. Simon represents a contrary idea of essential human goodness.
Ralph
He is protagonist for this novel. He is a twelve-year-old English boy with fair hair. His father is in the Navy. He used the couch to call the children get together. He becomes the leader of the group of boys on the island. Ralph is good at to control his mind and he tried to coordinate the boys’ to build a miniature civilization on the island until they can be rescued. Ralph represents human beings’ civilizing instinct, as opposed to the savage instinct that Jack embodies.
