Synopsis
Jack and Ralph travel up the mountain to
search for the monster. They see the silhouette of the parachute from a
distance and think that it looks like a huge, deformed ape. Jack says that
Ralph is a coward and calling all the hunters to join him. Jack declares
himself the leader of the new tribe of hunters. They decapitate the sow. Ralph
and Piggy attend the feast too. Simon saw the Lord of the Flies. It says that
Simon will never escape him, for he exists within all men. When Simon
understanding that the beast does not exist externally but rather within each
individual boy and he wants to tell the others. The others get carried away and
killed him. The following morning, Jack’s hunters attack Ralph and Piggy and
steal Piggy’s glasses. In the ensuing battle, Roger rolls a boulder down the
mountain and killing Piggy and shattering the conch shell. Ralph hides in the
forest for the rest of the night and the following day. The others hunt him
like an animal. Jack ignites the forest in order to smoke Ralph out of his
hiding place. Ralph is forced out onto the beach and he knows the other boys
will soon arrive to kill him. A British naval officer standing over Ralph. The
officer’s ship noticed the fire raging in the jungle. The officer asks Ralph to
explain. But Ralph begins to weep and the other boys begin to sob as well.
Character introduced
Ralph: He lost his status and power in the group and Jack hunts down him.
Piggy: He doesn’t seem to change too much. But he has been kill by Roger.
Jack: He becomes the leader of the new tribe of hunters and
bloodthirsty, insane.
Simon: He is the only person saw the Lord of the Flies and knows the
beast is in each individual boy.
Point of view
The point of view of third quarter is still
keep in 3rd person view. This allows the readers to still get insight on every
characters thoughts and actions and makes reader easier to get a feel for all
the characters and there thoughts.
Setting
The setting is on the beach or in the
jungle. It still takes place on the island. Lots of the scenes are at night
time. It makes the mood more scary and dreadful. The boys are scattered around
the island to hunt Ralph. And Ralph is being along in the middle of nowhere
with no help.
Notable about the writer’s style
The writer use a relatively simple writing
style in Lord of the Flies, avoids
highly poetic language, lengthy description, and philosophical interludes. Much
of the novel is allegorical, meaning that the characters and objects in the
novel are infused with symbolic significance that conveys the novel’s central
themes and ideas.
Statement of themes
After a long time for these children stay
on the island. Some of them lost their innocence. Some of them still have moral
intellect. Ralph and Jack is the representative. Although Ralph is not the
leader, he doesn’t hold the grudge to Jack. But when Jack becomes to the new
leader, he becomes more bloodthirsty and lost his marbles.
