First Quarter - Lord of The Flies

* Characters
  • Ralph - He seems to be the main character. He is older then most of the kids, and he has an attractive appearance. The children voted for him to be their leader/chief. He is respect by all.
  • Piggy - He seems to be some kind of assistant. He is fat and has freckles. He doesn't like to be called Fatty. He seems to feel forgotten and wronger by Ralph when he starts to "hang out" with Jack. He is smart, but suffers some kind of bullying.
  • Jack - He is bossy and gross. He wants to be the leader, but the kids prefer Ralph. He wants to do thing on his own way. He is kind of a second boss for the kids.
  • Simon - He is chosen by Ralph to go for a expedition with him and Jack. He is a skinny, straight hair little boy.
  • Sam and Eric - Twins; survivors.
* Synopsis
  • A plane falls down in an island.
  • The survives are children. There are no grown-ups.
  • At first, there are only two kids together (Ralph and Piggy)
  • They find a shell and use the sound of it to atract other possible survivors.
  • The children get together. All of them vote for a chief. Ralph wons against Jack.
  • Ralph, Jack and Simon go for a expedition to make sure the place that they are is an island.
  • Jack can't hunt a pig.
  • They come back and explain to the others that they are on an island without any adults. They have to watch out for theirselfs and wait untill they are rescued.
  • It is decided that who has the shell, also has the right to speak.
  • They make a fire to make it easier for people to localize them.
* Statement of Themes

     So far "Lord of The Flies" is about survival, control and teamwork. The kids are trying to find out how they will live while they are waiting for rescue. Apparently, they think that the best way to make it is having a leader and listening to his plans. The chief Ralph is respected by the other kids. He seems to know how to be on control of everything. They now have to work together until they are rescued.
* Setting

     "... there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance" This setting is about the way Ralph is being seen. It is important because it shows some of the reasons why he is respected by the other children. Everyone pays attention at him because of these qualities. If he wasn't older, good looking or brave, I'm pretty sure  that the kids wouldn't have vote for him to be their chief.
* Point of View

     The story is told in 3rd person omniscient point of view. It makes the story easier to understand, because it is shown everything that is happening from a general point of view. If it was told in 1st person, we would be reading just the point of view of the character.
* Notables about the writer's style
     The author writes the story in a realistic way. He doesn't appearr interesting in brings comedy and fun to the story. He is serious and I bet he has something to say with this book that I may find out reading the next quarters.
