Polished Response:

Polished Response:

Oh the horror…the horror…” is a quote from the character Kurtz in Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. This quote can also be related to Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. This quote references the horror that Kurtz has seen and committed , which can be related to the darkness and horror the boys experienced in Lord of the Flies. Kurtz had to overcome the fact that he killed many people in the war and the boys in Lord of the Flies had to overcome the deaths of Piggy and Simon. In the story the boys were scared of the beast, which was the horror causing them to be scared of everything, and in trying to find the beast, they became the beast just like Kurtz became the horror in The Heart of Darkness.

Second Choice Assignment

3 Song Analyzation

1) Let the bodies hit the floor

In the song let the bodies hit the floor by drowning pool the singer is singing about death. When the singer sings,

'let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor,'

it's just like in the story when the boys murder Simon. This song also applies to when the boulder throws Piggy through the air and he hits the ground so hard he dies.

2) Bad Moon Rising

In the song Bad Moon Rising by CCR, the singer is singing about how there are bad times coming. When the singer sings,

I see the bad moon arising.
I see trouble on the way.
    I see earthquakes and lightnin'.
    I see bad times today.

it's just like in the story when Jack goes off to lead his own group and bad thing start happening to Ralph and Piggy. It also applies to when the boys go to confront Jack to get Piggy's glasses back.

3) Lord of the Flies

In the song Lord of the Flies by Elton John, Elton John is singing about Lord of the Flies. When he sings,

And he says how come you two
Are the only ones here who survived
Oh I thought it was me
    Who was destined to be
    The lord of the flies

he is singing about when the boys first landed on the island and how Ralph determined that he should be the lord of the flies. This song really reflects the mood when they first land and explains how Ralph determined that he wanted to be the leader.

Fourth Quartering

Synopsis:

-Jack and the savages stole Piggy's glasses
-Piggy, Ralph and some of the others go confront Jack and try to get Piggy's glasses
-During the fight, Roger pushes a boulder that kills Piggy
-Jack and his tribe try to hunt Ralph
-Mid fight a navy officer comes to save them

Character Introduction:

Ralph-Protagonist, the leader of the boys. round character-athletic 12 year old boy
Jack-Antagonist, isn't scared to speak his mind, red haired boy, very bossy, dynamic character
Piggy-Round character, very quiet, supporting character, helps get people to be on Ralph’s side

Point of view: The story is written in third person. The author chose to write things like this because it opens more doors for him and it makes write the story as well as interpreting the story easier

Setting: The story takes place on an uninhabited island in the middle of the ocean. The boys are all alone, with no food, no water and no adult help. They need to figure out how to survive or they won't make it until they get rescued.

Notables about the writers style: The author wrote the story in a realistic way. He doesn't sugar coat how surviving on an island would be, he shows how it would be. He was a survivor from the war so he uses his personal experience to help him write the story.

Theme: I think the theme of the story is team work, because if everyone worked by themselves and didn't work as a team nothing would get done and it would be a big mess.

How to build a parachute shelter

How to build a parachute shelter. You will need: sticks vines parachute canopy How to build the shelter: 1:Find a flat area that is about 10 feet by 10 feet. 2:Find 3 polls about 8 feet long. 3:Stand up the polls in a tripod shape and tie them together. 4:Find a few more long sticks and lean them up against the tripod. 5:Lay the parachute over the tripod then find the bridle loop and place it over the top of a free-standing poll. 6:Wrap the parachute around the tripod leaving room for the door. 6:Leave a space a foot large at the top of the shelter for ventilation if you want to have a fire inside. It is important for the boys to know how to build a shelter because there are no houses on the island. Building a shelter out of a parachute would be wise because there is a parachute already on the island. Parachutes are very durable to it would be the perfect material to build a shelter out of to stay safe from all of the elements. There are many other ways the boys could build a shelter such as using debris to make a hut but I think that this is the best way.

My introduction

Hi, my name is Andrew and I like cows. I'm reading Lord of the Flies and I'm only 15 pages into it so I can't give much of an opinion but so far I think it is pretty interesting. I chose Lord of the Flies because I have always enjoyed books about survival. I suspect that the book will be good once I get farther in. Hopefully the boys get rescued at the end of the book because if they don't it would be a dumb book.
